Course Design Alignment exhibits a connecting thread between the Objectives, the Activities, and the Assessment. This connecting thread – or really, logical connection, helps us to make sure that the activities support the objective and the ability for the learner to demonstrate their grip on the objectives in the assessment.
This is important because it helps the instructional designer to stay on track with the learning strategies, making the best choices possible when designing the course. By aligning the objectives and the assessment early on, we have a clear sense of what we want the learning outcomes to be. And, if we notice that something is not fitting together correctly – or, it doesn’t make sense, or seems extraneous, or is missing, we can make changes in the design so that everything supports the learner’s ability to achieve the objectives.
